Both Triple Eight drivers in Top Ten Shootout tomorrow

Fresh from their historic victory at Mount Panorama Team Betta Electrical V8 Supercar drivers Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup have enjoyed a successful start to their Indy campaign qualifying well inside the top ten ahead of tomorrow's shootout.

The Bathurst winning duo featured in the top five during the morning practice sessions with consistent lap times.

After glancing the wall at Turn nine on his opening flying lap Jamie Whincup was able to get back out in the twenty minute qualifying session and record the seventh fastest time just ahead of team mate Craig Lowndes.

"This qualifying session is the most intense session we ever do," Whincup said.

"To get your car into the top ten around this track requires 100% commitment and I was lucky enough to get clear air and firm a spot in the short time I was on track.

"Clipping the wall on my first flying lap was caused by me anticipating more understeer but thankfully the car was not damaged badly enough to dramatically impact the rest of the session," Whincup commented.

Craig Lowndes who is the defending champion at this circuit had consistently quick practice times, finishing practice two in second place.

"I am really happy with the way the car is," said Lowndes.

"Whilst we suffered some minor understeer in the first few laps of qualifying, it is responding well as tyres warm up and I get into a rhythm."

"It is definitely a good race car, we just need a little bit more for tomorrows Top Ten shootout and Race one," Lowndes added.

V8 Supercar action resumes tomorrow at 12.25pm, with the Top Ten qualifiers set to contest the Shootout.

Three races will follow for the weekend, each consisting of 22 laps, a grueling task around the concrete-lined bends and unique chicanes.

320 championship points are again on offer for the event, and Team Betta Electrical are hoping to factor in the major placings as the final chequered flag is waved and the sun begins to dip behind the amazing Surfers Paradise skyline.
