Novocastrian Drew Russell is set to make his long awaited return to the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series this weekend at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Drew will be returning with a new BF and will be run by the team he has spent much of his life with, Novocastrian Motorsport.
After being forced to sit and watch from the sidelines since round two of the championship at Winton Raceway, Drew Russell cannot wait to get back out on the track.
"It has been more than five months since I last raced in the Fujitsu series and I can't think of a better track than Bathurst to return to the series," Drew said.
"It is a very special place and there was no way I was going to miss racing there this year!
"We have spent a lot of time on the car in the last two months including completing two test days, but the real test will be on the track.
"Our focus this weekend is to go out and push as hard as possible, whilst ensuring we stay out of trouble.
"We are aiming for a top ten finish, but with a new car and so much time away from racing we know that this will be a challenge.
"This round and the final round of the championship at Homebush in December will in effect be our pre-season before we return to fight for the 2010 championship."
Drew returns to the series this weekend with a new sponsor, ESET an antivirus software company.
"I really want to say a massive thank you to those who have stood by me over the last few months.
"It has been a really tough time and I really appreciate the support I have received from my sponsors; both new and old, and to my friends and family who have put up with a grumpy race driver without a car to drive.
"I am hoping to repay them with a fantastic result this weekend!"
Drew hits the track for the first time at 10am on Thursday morning, with qualifying at 8:55am on Friday and the first race later that afternoon.
