Nissan Motorsport’s Dean Fiore topped this morning’s half-hour hit-out for the V8 Supercars co-drivers at Queensland Raceway.
Fiore, who will share the #23 Altima with Michael Caruso at Sandown, Bathurst, and the Gold Coast, spent the 30-minute session locked in a battle for top spot with Prodrive’s Dean Canto.
The pair swapped between P1 and P2 for much of the session, before Fiore locked down top spot with a 1m10.491s right at the end of the session.
“It was good,” said Fiore.
“We had a small programme to work through, and we worked through it. The car is in good nick, it was good fun.”
That left Canto and the #55 Falcon in P2, the Prodrive crew sparking controversy by putting the car on soft tyres for its final run.
Steve Owen was third fastest in Mark Winterbottom’s Prodrive Falcon, ahead of David Russell (#15 Jack Daniel’s Nissan) and Cameron Waters (#6 Prodrive Falcon).
Alex Davison was sixth fastest in the Erebus Mercedes he will share with brother Will, while Macauley Jones was seventh in the #21 Commodore, and Marcos Ambrose eighth in the #17 Penske entry.
“It feels really good,” said Ambrose.
“Like everybody we’re on pretty used tyres, but it felt pretty good. All in all I’m pretty happy with that session.”
