Erebus goes 1960s for Reynolds Commodore

As part of the heritage theme for the Sandown 500, Reynolds and co-driver Craig Baird will ditch the black and gold that main sponsor Penrite currently uses as its corporate colours, and go for a look inspired by the Aussie oil company’s branding from the 1950s to the early 1980s.

The car will also run under #90, to celebrate nine decades of the Dymond family owned and run business.

“This retro livery is to celebrate Penrite’s 90 years of oil manufacturing in Australia,” Penrite’s General Manager of Sales and Marketing Toby Dymond, said.

“My dad was very passionate about oil and lubricant technology, he made it his life’s work to set about developing new industry leading standards.

“He always pushed us all to find better ways to do things; growing up and working in the automotive trade he learnt how things worked and always wanted them to perform at their best.

“We have grown significantly but still have not lost sight of our original goals, and that is to make the best possible quality product and right oil for any application.”

Reynolds added that the livery is in line with an era that he would have enjoyed racing during.

“They have been around for a long time and it’s really cool to be able to celebrate their milestone with a one-off livery,” he said.

“I’m certain I was born in the wrong era, as this era would definitely be my favourite.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the car with Bairdo, we have been friends for a long time and he has also acted as a mentor to me. I’m excited about the whole weekend.”

The Sandown 500 kicks off this Friday.
