Round 3 Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series
April 27-28 Eastern Creek International Raceway, NSW.
McConville 25th after tight Eastern Creek V8 Supercar qualifying session.
April 27, 2002 - Sydney's Lansvale Racing V8 Supercar Team has qualified 25th for tonight's Eastern Creek curtain raiser - a twilight race at 5:05pm, the first of three to decide the third round of the 2002 Australian V8 Supercar Series.
Driver Cameron McConville set his fastest lap of the day during the hectic 25 minute session held in mild and sunny conditions. The 28 year old made two pitstops during the session, one to change suspension setttings and tyres along with a second tyre stop.
Despite improving on his fastest laps during each of his qualifying runs, the Lansvale Racing Team VX Commodore driver's fastest time of 1:33.2054s around the 3.9km Eastern Creek circuit placed him 20th out of the top 50% of qualifiers. Five drivers beat McConville's lap time during the second 50% qualifying session, dropping the team to 25th overall.
McConville has some very illustrious company for tonight's twilight race, where he will be starting behind Holden driver Larry Perkins and ahead of top pre-qualifier Brad Jones.
Cameron McConville - "I expected more speed from the car today as we clearly lacked pace during that session. The car improved after the changes we made during the first and second pit stops but it wasn't enough. I was confident of a better qualifying result than 25th, but we now have to concentrate on developing a strong race set up for tonight and tomorrow."
The Lansvale Racing Team driver will have a job ahead of him tonight, with only 13 laps to try and earn himself a better starting position for tomorrow's first of two important V8 Supercar Series races starting at 11:00am.
HRT driver Mark Skaife has claimed the Eastern Creek pole position ahead of Brazilian Ford driver Max Wilson and Garth Tander in third.
