Crompton to make V8 comeback

Neil Crompton will race a V8-powered Ford Mustang at next month’s Muscle Car Masters at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Crompton will race in the popular Touring Car Masters class, driving John Bowe’s ‘Mustang Sally’, which has been campaigned by Steve Johnson at the last few rounds.

Bowe started the season in the car, before switching over to a Holden Torana before the Winton round back in May.

Crompton, the lead commentator for Fox’s V8 Supercars coverage in Australia, has a long history as a competitive driver. He started in touring cars in the late 1980s, driving for the likes of the Holden Racing Team, Wayne Garnder Racing, and Ford Tickford Racing.

He finished 10th in both the 1994 and 1995 Australian Touring Car Championships, and twice finished third at Bathurst, driving a Nissan GT-R in 1992 and again in a WGR Commodore in 1995.

Crompton stepped away from full-time competition at the end of the 2002 season.

The Muscle Car Masters will take place at Sydney Motorsport Park across the first weekend of September.
