James Courtney led the way in the final V8 Supercars practice session of the weekend at Winton.
The Holden Racing Team driver fired to the top of the time sheets a minute from the end of the session, a 1m23.749s leaving him 0.408s clear of the field.
Courtney has an extra set of tyres up his sleeve for today’s 200-kilometre race, having controversially switched to wet tyres during yesterday’s second race to save rubber.
Courtney’s improvement relegated Volvo’s David Wall to second, with Craig Lowndes going third fastest for Triple Eight.
Chaz Mostert was the best of the Prodrive Falcons in fourth, ahead of Nissan’s Michael Caruso and Erebus driver Ash Walsh.
Garth Tander was just 12th fastest in the other HRT car, while Jamie Whincup was just 15th.
