Consistency key to title fight – Coulthard

Fabian Coulthard says keeping his points score ticking over is his key to being part of the V8 Supercars title fight come the business end of the season.

The Kiwi has enjoyed an excellent start to the 2015; in 12 races, he’s only finished outside of the Top 10 once, has been on the podium five times, and won the second of three races at the season-opening Clispal 500.

His drive of the season so far, however, was a storming run from the back of the grid to third place in race three at Barbagallo Raceway.

Coulthard is currently third in the championship standings, 86 points adrift of leader Mark Winterbottom, and says that consistency is what he’s focussed on as he builds his title challenge.

“What wins championships is collecting points,” Coulthard said.

“When the days aren’t so good, you’ve got to say ‘this isn’t a good day’ and collect what you can.

“The way we’re going, we’ve got plenty of improvement to come. We’re always improving our car and making it better, and I think from last season to this season has proven that.

“We just have to keep going about our business.”

As reported on Tuesday, Coulthard will have a new Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodore chassis for the next championship round in Darwin next month.
