Cat Racing's John Bowe was pushed out of the top ten on the final lap of qualifying at Winton Motor Raceway today.

In damp conditions, Bowe had put the Falcon into 2nd place as the track began to dry.

With the session drawing to a close, and more rain threatening, Bowe's time was eclipsed by a number of drivers who elected to change to slicks - pushing him out of the top ten.

"It is a bit disappointing because with about three minutes to go we were in second spot," Bowe said.

"For some reason the session ran longer than what is was supposed to and everybody who went onto slicks, jumped us in the queue.

"The car was too soft early and the boys did a fantastic job to make changes during one of the stoppages."

The session was disrupted by a number of red flag stoppages with cars finishing off circuit.

Despite today's disappointment, Bowe remains confident of a strong result in tomorrow's tenth round of the championship.

"This is a pretty tight track and it will be interesting to see how the 45 minute races pan out tomorrow," Bowe said.

"If everyone uses their head, we could have some fantastic races, but off-track it is very wet and boggy and if anyone runs off, they will be bogged up to their axles.

"Winton has a bit of a reputation of being pretty wild but I am hoping we don't get caught up in any drama.

"Starting from 13 is a bit disappointing, but it is not impossible to pull out a good result from there."

Bowe was not the only driver to be caught out in tricky conditions. While Russell Ingall will start from pole, other stars in hitting trouble included Mark Skaife (15th), Todd Kelly (16th), Marcos Ambrose (18th), Jason Bagwanna (19th), and Craig Lowndes (27th).

The first of tomorrow's two 45-minute races kicks off at 11.30am, with the second race at 3.00pm. <pre> TOP TEN SHOOT-OUT 1. - Ingall (Holden) - 1:24.332 2. - Morris (Holden) - 1:24.916 3. - Radisich (Ford) - 1:24.915 4. - Tander (Holden) - 1:25.028 5. - McLean (Ford) - 1:25.402 6. - Longhurst (Holden) - 1:25.521 7. - Ellery (Ford) - 1:25.602 8. - Murphy (Holden) - 1:26.069 9. - Johnson (Ford) - 1:27.129 10. - Bright (Holden) - 1:31.819
