Preview Round Ten Winton
Winton Raceway A Happy Hunting Ground For Bowe
After showing great speed at the recent Queensland 500, Cat Racing's John Bowe is fired up for a strong performance at the tenth round of the Shell Championship Series at Winton.
Staged on September 8-9 this year, the Winton round has been kind to Bowe in the past with five race wins and three round victories under his belt.
"I suppose you like any track where you have done well and I have three wins under my belt here," Bowe said.
"I enjoy the track, especially since they extended the circuit. The track is pretty smooth sometimes too smooth because a lot of teams have problems with tyre graining at Winton.
"The left hand sweeper which leads to the back part of the circuit is my favorite corner.
"You need a car that is quite well balanced through here and despite the fact that nearly half the field ran off the road here in 1999 in the first heat (including me), and I got tangled up with Garth Tander last year, it is still one of my favorite tracks."
Bowe is eagerly awaiting the Winton round after nearly finishing on the podium at Queensland Raceway last week. He and co-driver Simon Wills were up to fourth place when torrential rain sent the Cat machine into the sand trap while on slicks.
"We were upset with how the 500 worked out, but we had to take a chance - 4th place doesn't give you the chance to spray the champagne," Bowe said.
"The car was fantastic last week and I think it should be equally as strong at Winton.
"Having the longer races at Winton will also be a lot of fun. The new pit facilities are excellent and I am really looking forward to the weekend.
"The local fans really support this event and with this being the last round before Bathurst, everybody will be very keen to do well."
The Winton weekend will feature a top ten shoot-out for the first time as well as two 45-minute races on Sunday.
