Stunning Qualifying Run For Bowe Puts Cat Duo In Top Five

Cat Racing stars John Bowe and Simon Wills will start tomorrow's VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500 from position five on the grid after a brilliant performance from Bowe in qualifying today.

Bowe was fifth fastest at the conclusion of the 25-minute qualifying session for the fastest 50% of the field and backed that up in the top 15 shootout - stopping the clocks at 1:10.710 for his single flying lap.

That performance put the Cat Falcon on the third row in position five for tomorrow's 500km two-driver event.

Bowe's lap was only .17 of a second off the fastest time set by fellow Ford driver Marcos Ambrose.

Championship leader Mark Skaife threw away a strong qualifying performance when he spun on his shootout lap - putting him back in 15th spot.

Bowe was impressed with the performance of the Briggs Motorsport Falcon and believes he and Wills are in a strong position for tomorrow's event.

"The boys have done a fantastic job on the car and I think Simon and I are in good shape for tomorrow," Bowe said.

"However, that is only part of the work done. Tomorrow is a very tough race and you have to ensure you play the strategies right on race day.

"Our car is very strong and I think we have a good race package for tomorrow.

"The car was really good in the shoot-out and there is obviously nothing between the top five cars."

Wills is looking forward to making his race debut aboard the Cat Falcon.

"John did a great job today and I can't wait for tomorrow's race," Wills said.

"The car has felt really good and I think we should make a good combination tomorrow.

"It is important for me to run good consistent laps and keep out of the trouble. That will be half the secret of tomorrow's race."

The 161-lap event kicks off tomorrow at 1.00pm local time. <pre> TOP 15 SHOOTOUT 1. - Ambrose/Crick (Ford) - 1:10.536 2. - Besnard/White (Ford) - 1:10.650 3. - Longhurst/Mezera (Holden) - 1:10.669 4. - Ingall/Perkins (Holden) - 1:10.680 5. - BOWE/WILLS (CAT FORD) - 1:10.710 6. - Morris/Neal (Holden) - 1:10.726 7. - Radisich/Johnson (Ford) - 1:10.870 8. - Seton/Richards (Ford) - 1:11.022 9. - Lowndes/Crompton (Ford) - 1:11.180 10. - Larkham/Gardner (Ford) - 1:11.252 11. - Kelly/Murphy (Holden) - 1:11.261 12. - Ritter/Stokell (Ford) - 1:11.278 13. - Weel/Leahey (Ford) - 1:11.367 14. - Tander/Bargwanna (Holden) - 1:11.849 15. - Skaife/Bright (Holden) - 1:25.087 * top 15 qualifying driver named first
