Cat Racing star John Bowe is looking forward to returning to a happy hunting ground for the next round of the V8 title chase - Melbourne's Calder Park Raceway.
Bowe recorded Cat Racing's first ever podium position at Calder last year, finishing 7th, 3rd and 3rd in the three races.
He also managed to dodge the dramatic accident which eliminated Craig Lowndes' in a frightening roll-over.
"We managed to keep out of trouble at Calder last year, which can be half the secret to success," Bowe said.
"In Craig's accident there were cars going every which way, but we managed to get through the carnage.
"Seeing a bonnet fly over the top of the car was a bit of a worry but the overall result was certainly a highlight for the team."
While Bowe enjoyed a champagne soaking on the podium at Calder last year, the result is not the only reason the Tasmanian star looks fondly upon the Melbourne circuit.
Bowe's Calder experiences date back to the Australian Grand Prix events staged in the early 80s.
"We raced Formula Atlantic cars against some of the biggest names in Formula One at the time including Alain Prost, Keke Rosberg and Niki Lauda," Bowe said.
"Back then, the Calder circuit was a lot shorter, which even fewer passing opportunities.
"But to get the chance to race against guys like that was certainly a highlight of my career."
After a disappointing last round of the championship at Oran Park, Bowe is looking forward to a change of fortune at Calder.
"We have struggled to find a set-up at Oran Park for the past two years, but the car was pretty good at Calder last year," Bowe said.
"Calder is very tough because there are very few fast corners and making up time is quite difficult. You need a car that puts its power down nicely and also stops well at the end of the front and back straights.
"It is a bit of a home race for Caterpillar with their headquarters down the road at Tullamarine, so I would love to come away with another good result this year."
