BOWE HOPES TO CONTINUE STRONG RUN WAY OUT WEST
Fresh from his top four result at the GMC 400 at Canberra, Cat Racing star John Bowe now has his sights set on continuing his strong form at Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia next weekend.
Since debuting his new Briggs Motorsport-built Ford Falcon AU at Eastern Creek, Bowe has recorded two fourth places in the past three rounds.
He also showed strong speed at Hidden Valley in Darwin, only to be taken out at the first corner of the opening race.
"The car has been quite fast and consistent and I would love to have a good result in Perth this week," Bowe said.
"The Cat team originally started in Perth three years ago but we have not been able to pull out a good result there.
"In the past, I have done well in Perth with a couple of round wins and I think we are well placed to do well again."
Next weekend's sixth round of the Shell Championship Series will feature three sprint races and no pit stops for the first time this year.
"The sprint races are pretty cut throat so it will be important to qualify well this weekend," Bowe said.
"Passing at Barbgallo can also be tough, so we will have to work hard on making the car fast straight off the truck."
Having originally made his Australian Driver's Championship debut with Elfin in WA in 1979 at the Australian Grand Prix, Bowe is quite fond of the challenge of the Perth circuit.
"The track is very abrasive, particularly if the day is a little windy, blowing the sand onto the racing surface," Bowe said.
"If the weather is warm, the track conditions do change and lap times drop. Barbagallo has an interesting layout but passing is very tough, particularly if the driver in front of you is not being cooperative.
"My favorite part of the circuit is the uphill left hand sweeper which leads onto the back part of the circuit." <pre> BARBAGALLO RECORD:
