V8 SUPERCAR CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
RACE TWO - CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE
BOWE TOP FORD DRIVER IN RAIN SOAKED ADELAIDE DOG-FIGHT
John Bowe pulled out a storming drive to grab fourth place in the second leg of the Clipsal 500 despite torrential rain on the streets of Adelaide today.
After starting from position 12, Bowe made a stunning start to move up to eighth position on the opening lap.
Bowe held that position for the first 18 laps before the track was soaked by a heavy rain shower.
A swift pit-stop for wet tyres on lap 20 kept him in eighth position before the safety car entered the circuit on lap 24.
The field was slowed due to huge puddles of water on the circuit until lap 33 when the race re-commenced - with Bowe now in fourth spot after several cars had pitted.
Bowe made his final pit-stop for fuel on lap 40, resuming in sixth position.
He grabbed a position by passing Greg Murphy on lap 55 and gained another spot when race leader Craig Lowndes fell out with engines problems.
"The boys did a fantastic job on the pit-stops and our car was even stronger in the wet," Bowe said.
"The conditions were terrible out there - visibility was awful and you had to be very careful with the pools of water that formed around the track.
"We also dodged a couple of bullets with cars spinning right in front of me.
"Considering our boys worked until 2.30 in the morning to repair the car from yesterday, to grab fourth was a fantastic result."
After collecting a strong handful of points, Bowe is now looking forward to the next round of the series at Eastern Creek on May 30.
"We have had a pretty tough time this year, but fourth place today feels like a win," Bowe said.
"It would have been nice to finish on the podium, but after the day we had yesterday, fourth place was certainly beyond our expectations.
"The result has given the guys a real boost and I am hopeful we can use today as a springboard for the rest of the year."
