Bowe Gets Into The Swim Of Things With Olympic Legend
V8 Supercar star John Bowe is quite accustomed to doing laps and is also very proficient in the wet.
But at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre today, Bowe did some wet weather laps of a different kind with a special coach on board.
Olympic legend Dawn Fraser was on hand to pass on some swimming tips - swapping hints with the V8 star as she prepares to contest this weekend's All Female Celebrity Challenge aboard a Ford Laser SR2 painted in the same Cat Racing colours as Bowe's Ford Falcon.
Fraser has spent the past two days undergoing intensive training at Mallala Motorsport Park aboard her Laser.
While Bowe will pass on some added tips prior to the weekend, the Cat Racing pilot believes Dawn's swimming tips may be more useful.
"I have a pretty intensive fitness program, but when it comes to swimming, I am all at sea," Bowe said.
"I am sure Dawn will do pretty well on the weekend because she has such a great competitive spirit and all the Cat Racing crew will be cheering her on."
Fraser will join other celebrities including Tania Zaetta, Rachel Sporn, Angela Bishop and Tatiana Grigorieva in the all-female event. Each of the cars are painted to resemble one of Ford's 2001 V8 Supercar squads.
'Our Dawn', as she is affectionately known, is the only swimmer to take the same individual title at three consecutive Olympic Games, winning the 100 metres freestyle at Melbourne in 1956, Rome in 1960 and Tokyo in 1964. In 1956 she also won gold in the 4x100 metres freestyle.
Bowe is eagerly awaiting the chance to do battle at Adelaide this weekend in his final race aboard the current Cat Racing Falcon.
"We have a new car nearing completion which we will debut at Eastern Creek," Bowe said.
"I am really looking forward to the Adelaide weekend because the people here really get behind the event. It has a fantastic atmosphere and is really the best race on the calendar."
