On-track action is officially underway for the 12th round of the 2015 V8 Supercars season at Pukekohe Park Raceway.
Teams got two hours of practice time Friday in Auckland, which were split into two separate practice sessions.
The first session was led by Nissan's Michael Caruso after his teammate James Moffat led most of the practice, putting up a time of 1:03.723 in the final minutes.
Craig Lowndes trailed both the Nissans in third place on the time sheets and his day was not without incident. Both he and Triple Eight teammate Jamie Whincup went for high-speed spins during the session, but the veteran drivers managed to escape their respective incidents without damage.
Championship leader Mark Winterbottom timed in fourth with Shane Van Gisbergen rounding out the top five.
In the second practice, Scott McLaughlin impressed on home turf after an eventful Practice 1 that saw him run off the circuit. The Kiwi ran the fastest lap of the day, throwing down a lap time of 1:03.161. Winterbottom, Lowndes, Whincup, and Scott Pye filled out the rest of the top five.
The session was halted by a red flag late in the going when Jason Bright made contact with the barriers in Turn 3, sustaining damage to the left-front and door of his Holden, which he was able to limp back to the pit lane.
