SUBARU driver Brett Peters surged to a big lead in the Century Batteries Australian GT Production Car Championship after wrapping up round three with a second race win in Canberra today.
After winning the first seven-lap leg yesterday afternoon, Peters started from pole position today and led all the way to the finish.
Peters, from Queensland, survived a strong challenge from fellow Subaru driver Wayne Boatwright, who was the fastest of four competitors to break the lap record for the 3.9 kilometre temporary street circuit.
All-wheel drive Subarus claimed three of the top six places today and Peters' personal record of three straight wins over the past two rounds has lifted his points tally in the GT Performance series to 60.
Previous series leader Philip Polites now holds second, despite failing to add to his 38 points because of two non-finishes this weekend in his Mazda RX-7.
Peter Floyd (Commodore GTS) and Graham Alexander (Mitsubishi Evo V) finished equal third for the round, each scoring a third and fourth place.
David Ratcliff won a race-long battle for the Hippies Sports Touring class, giving his new Toyota Celica its first GTP victory, ahead of Nathan Thomas (Honda) and Nathan Pilkington (Mitsubishi).
