RICHARDS: "YOU CAN'T MAKE BATHURST TOO EASY!"
Third-fastest in the morning and 25th fastest in the afternoon; Team BOC and Jason Richards had a mixed start to the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 today.
After Richards set a blistering pace in today's first practice session, co-driver Andy Jones backed it up, setting the sixth-fastest time in his session before reporting problems with braking.
Richards then had to spend the third and final session of the day working through adjustments to fix the problem, which seems to be a related to the uprights.
They will now be changed overnight before two more practice sessions tomorrow morning followed by qualifying at 14.35.
"You can't make Bathurst too easy can you?!
"The car this morning was fantastic and I couldn't wait to get onto green tyres. Then Andy started mentioning some braking issue in the last part of his run. With a long brake pedal there's no point pushing on until you've fixed all your gremlins so we made a number of changes in the last session. Unfortunately none of them fixed the problem so we think we may need to replace the uprights. We're almost certain it can only be that."
Team BOC Co-Driver
"There are two things good about this car: one, it's pacey and two, it's pretty comfortable to drive at that pace. The key now is fixing the upright problem and working on qualifying speed and that's really JR's bag. It's Thursday so you don't want to get too far ahead of yourself, but before the third session we were pretty competitive."
