PERKINS FRESH OUT OF LUCK IN PERTH
Jack Perkins has had a day of promising speed but little luck in the final race of the Bigpond 300 at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth today.
Perkins qualified in 18th aboard the #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore earlier today, but it could have been even better for the second-generation racer after being baulked on an even faster lap.
Perkins was then forced to avoid the stalled car of Fabian Coulthard off the line, losing several spots as he took to the grass on the front straight.
From there Perkins put in some fast laps while running on the softer Dunlop 'option' tyre but luck was not kind to the strategy Perkins and new race engineer Stewart McDonald.
Perkins finished the race in 24th position to remain 26th in the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series standings with one event remaining this season, the Sydney Telstra 500 in two weeks time.
Craig Lowndes won today's second race of the Bigpond 300 ahead of Steve Johnson and Garth Tander.
WHAT JACK HAD TO SAY ...
Jack Perkins - #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore:
"I think we had a good strategy today with the #11 BET 247 Commodore but I don't think I've had a day where we've had worse luck than we did today," said Jack Perkins.
"Nothing really went our way. We had to miss a stalled car on the grid and we lost about eight spots there.
"It's just a disappointing day, considering we had a good qualifying and it could have been better because we got held up by the #25 car. We probably could have had the thing in the top 10.
"We worked really hard at it all weekend and it's just a disappointing way for the whole team to end this weekend. But I'm looking forward to finishing the year off at Homebush on a new track and I think all the guys are gelling well together and it should be a good weekend."
