Skaife and Kelly begin journey in Bahrain

The Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly have turned their first competitive laps for this weekend's Bahrain Desert 400 at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Kelly was the fastest of the duo, taking the #22 Commodore to ninth fastest time after completing 33 laps of the 3.6kilometre circuit.

Teammate Skaife struggled with oversteer in the #2 HRT machine, though had been on a faster lap that would have put him into the top 10. He ended up recording the th 12 fastest time.

Mark Skaife (#2 Holden Racing Team Commodore VZ)

"The car was pretty ordinary today. I don't think I've driven such an oversteering car. It felt like I was in a Sprintcar at Parramatta City Raceway! We do have a direction that we want to go in for tomorrow with the car. We spent a lot of time in the session in the pits making changes. On the last lap on the older tyres I did a 1m25.7s lap and I was on target on the new tyres to do a 24.7, which would have put us around seventh or so."

Todd Kelly (#22 Holden Racing Team Commodore VZ)

"The day was a lot harder than we thought it would be. The grip levels were a lot lower on the track than we thought they would be. We had the same trend with the car of struggling to get into the corners throughout the session, even despite making different setup changes. It was a bit better at the end but there's something missing. Hopefully we can get on top of it for tomorrow."
