From F1 Car To Provisional Pole

TeamVodafone's Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes have qualified for the Top Ten Shootout at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne tomorrow. Whincup was fastest in today's 30 minute qualifying session and teammate Lowndes finished sixth. Both drivers will contest a one-lap shootout tomorrow afternoon which will determine the top ten starting positions for Race 1. Still coming down from the exhilaration and excitement of driving a Vodafone McLaren Formula One car on Tuesday, Whincup channelled the power of the F1 to cross the line first today.

"Today was a good start to the weekend, we're not out here for points, but it's still important to get the results, especially in front of our Vodafone counterparts at McLaren," said Whincup.

"This is a good starting point and hopefully we can convert it to a front row start tomorrow as this track is notoriously hard to pass on," he said.

Craig Lowndes explains that it felt good to be behind the wheel again after the Clipsal 500. "It is great to be back running around Albert Park. The track is still quite dirty and low grip but we know that will change a lot over the next 24 hours.

"Today was all about finishing in the top ten for tomorrow's shootout and with qualifying run later in the day it gave us a good chance to see what the track temperatures will be like for tomorrow's race," Lowndes said.

The V8 Supercar Top Ten Shootout gets underway at Albert Park at 15:00 (AEDST) followed by Race 1 of 3 tomorrow at 18:15 (AEDST).
