DAVISON FINISHES IN THE TOP 15 IN RACE #1 AT THE GRAND PRIX V8 EVENT
IRWIN Racing' Alex Davison has jumped five spots from his starting position to finish 14th in the opening 15-lap race of the non-championship V8 Supercar Challenge at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
Davison showed good pace, challenging for positions from the outset. He was in the middle of plenty of battles, but kept it straight through to the end.
After losing an engine in the opening laps of practice yesterday, the IRWIN Racing team has shown plenty of spirit, constantly improving the car every time it has been on track this weekend.
"Great to get through that first race and finish up the order,"said Davison.
"The main thing is that we have improved the IRWIN Ford every time it has been on the track. We got next to no time in practice, improved it for qualifying and it was better again in that race.
"We are still not there yet, but certainly the car is responding to the changes we are making and we have a better idea of what is making the car work.
"It was good to race with a strong group of cars and pass people. We did use the rear tyres a little too much, but we will work on getting better power-down for tomorrow's race."
IRWIN Racing Engineer Wes McDougall was pleased that the car is responding positively to the changes that have been made.
"We are moving in the right direction and that's a big positive with still plenty of racing to go this weekend," said McDougall.
"We had pretty good speed in the race and our lap times were very competitive. Also stringing 15 consistent good race laps together is very important.
"Now that we are heading in the right direction we can really use the data from today's race to improve the IRWIN Falcon for tomorrow."
