FORMER GTP champion Geoff Full christened his new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII with a maiden win in an eventful race one of the 2002 Australian GT Performance Championship in Adelaide today.

Full took the chequered flag 2.36 seconds ahead of defending GTP champion Brett Peters, in a Subaru STi, who was followed home by Peter Floyd in a Holden Commodore GTS.

The 12-lap race saw a pitched battle with Full, Peters Floyd and Mark King (Mitsubishi) all swapping places in the leading group.

With Peters in the lead from the start, the field was closed up behind the safety car from lap 3 after Craig Dontas crashed heavily into the safety barrier on lap three.

On the re-start on lap six, Floyd swept from second spot into the lead with a brave, high-speed corner drift. Full and King also displaced Peters, then King moved up to second place.

King and Floyd bumped as they contested the lead, but the Mitsubishi appeared to be damaged and failed to finish the last lap.

Full took advantage of the melee to regain first and Peters re-gathered to overtake Floyd.

Trevor Haines, from Melbourne, was unhurt when his Ford Falcon TE50 rolled on the last lap.
