BARGWANNA SIXTH FASTEST IN PRACTICE AT YAS MARINA CIRCUIT
Jason Bargwanna has continued to show impressive pace aboard his Rock Commodore after setting the sixth fastest time in practice for the Yas V8 400 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi today.
Bargwanna set the fastest time at the official V8 Supercar test day at Winton Motor Raceway in Winton, Australia earlier this month and in his first year at Kelly Racing continues to exhibit strong form.
Bargwanna and race engineer Stuart McDonald worked hard to trying many race set-ups on the #11 Rock Commodore around the spectacular circuit today, putting them in a solid position for tomorrow's qualifying and opening 200-kilometre race.
Tony Ricciardello focused on gaining track time and experience in the #16 Super-Max Commodore in Abu Dhabi today.
Ricciardello, who was unveiled as Kelly Racing's fourth driver for 2010 on Wednesday, set about working to a plan today to adapt to his car and learn the Abu Dhabi circuit in preparation for this weekend's action.
Shane van Gisbergen set the fastest time in practice at the Yas Marina Circuit today ahead of Craig Lowndes and Mark Winterbottom.
Jason Bargwanna - #11 Rock Holden Commodore:
"It was a very good session and it was the first time that the guys were under pressure to do it properly at a race day.
Obviously we went well at the test day and today we also ran really well
The Rock Commodore ran perfectly and we played with springs, ride heights, roll centres, the works. We are still trying to understand it all but the car was very competitive.
"It's tough out there because once you do a few laps on your tyres you are trying to tune the car and find the limit, it's hard to gauge where you're at. We seem to be quite competitive on tyres that had done 50 laps and we've tuned it to the point where it's a pretty good race car.
"We put on a green set of tyres at the end and just did one flying lap, That's all we wanted to do and there is a lot more in it, so I'm quite happy to be up there."
Tony Ricciardello - #16 Super-Max Holden Commodore:
"Overall we are pretty happy with how the Super-Max Commodore went today," said Ricciardello.
"We made some really good gains on the car set-up and also getting our head around the circuit.
"We're looking forward to tomorrow. It should be an exciting day to finally get down to racing around this track.
"It's a huge venue and it's a great place to drive around and very challenging.
"We improved as the session went today and after having a good look at things overnight I'm confident we can find some more time."
