PITHER POWERS AWAY

Young Palmerston North driver Chris Pither provided another demonstration of his tremendous talent as Round 3 of the NZV8 Ute Series got underway at the new Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in north Waikato today.

'The Doctor' dominated proceedings throughout qualifying and the opening race of the round. He set the fastest lap in qualifying to put the ENZED Falcon on pole position by the healthy margin of 9/10ths of a second and then cruised to victory later in the day in the first of four races scheduled for this weekend.

While Pither encountered some problems in testing yesterday, today was troublefree. The 22-year-old required only a handful of fast laps to set his qualifying time and then looked totally comfortable throughout the 8 lap race.

Pither was beaten off the line by defending champion Caine Lobb of Whangarei in a Holden but he seized the lead under brakes at Turn 4 and managed to pull away until he had a safe margin. He crossed the line after reeling off the 8 laps with almost a second in hand over Lobb with Drury driver Bob Grove a further six and a half seconds back. Pither also secured the new category lap record at the circuit with his best lap in the race of 1 minute 18.209 seconds.

'The Doctor' was pretty happy with his days work and thoroughly enjoyed his first day of racing at the new Hampton Downs circuit. "It's cool, I really like it. It's different with some cool sequences and rises and dips."

Todays win gave Pither his sixth victory from the seven races held in this years series to date. He also extended his lead in the championship to 44 points.

Tomorrow morning, at 9.50am, 'The Doctor' and the ENZED Falcon will start from sixth position for the second race of the round over 8 laps after the grid was decided by marble draw today.

The third race scheduled for 11.10am, once again over 8 laps, will feature a reverse marble draw grid while the final race of the weekend will be contested over 10 laps at 2.35pm. The grid will be formed in the order of points scored in the first three races of the round.

Pither's efforts in the 2009/2010 NZV8 Ute Series are supported by ENZED, KDTraining.com and Cairns Bins.
