PITHER CARRIES ON HIS WINNING WAY

Chris Pither continued his winning ways as the penultimate round of the 2009/2010 NZV8 Utes Series began at Powerbuilt Tools Raceway at Ruapuna in Christchurch today.

Pither 'The Doctor' in his ENZED Falcon took pole position by almost one and a half seconds and went on to win the first of four races scheduled for the weekend from defending champion, and his main series rival, Caine Lobb 'The Ginja Ninja' of Whangarei in the Mark Cromie Holden.

Series rookie, local driver Simon 'Sly Si' Grace, overcame his recent battles with glandular fever and toncilitis to place third in his Wunderfloor Commodore.

Another Christchurch driver Graham 'Snr Burner' Beirne was fourth after a good qualifying effort that saw him place his John Jones Steel Falcon alongside Pither on the front row.

Geoff 'Spence' Spencer of Palmerston North in his Commodore, Mike 'Buzz' Lightfoot of Howick in a Falcon and Turangi driver David Kernohan in his KCL Contracting Falcon completed the finishers. Mike Pero 'The Loan Ranger' in his Mike Pero Mortgages Commodore and Peter 'Rocketman' Robb of Wanganui in his Commodore were early casualties while Chris Dunn of Timaru suffered a diff problem.

Sunday the V8 Utes will take part in three races - all of 8 laps duration. The action begins with a marble draw grid race at 11.10am with a reverse marble grid race at 1.45pm. The final race features a grid based on points scored over the weekend to that stage. That race will feature a pitstop.

The final round of the series takes place at the Timaru International Motor Raceway over the weekend of 27/28 March.
