NZ Utes: Beirne Timaru preview

JUNIOR BURNER RETURNS TO HAPPY HUNTING GROUND

Timaru International Motor Raceway is the next port of call for the ENZED V8 Ute Challenge and Simon Beirne 'Jnr Burner' of Christchurch cannot wait to hit the track.

Beirne is enjoying an excellent season at the wheel of his Team McDonald's Falcon and he arrives at Round 4 of the championship second in the point standings.

"Timaru is a circuit where I have had some strong results," said Simon as he looked ahead to this weekends contest after completing another excellent round at Teretonga last weekend. One only has to look back to last years round at this circuit for proof. Having sat out the entire season due to business and personal commitments 'Jnr Burner' arrived at Timaru for his first outing of the season and promptly set the second fastest time in qualifying. He is also the current lap record holder at the circuit.

Simon is contesting the full championship again this season and he is just 50 points behind current series leader Caine Lobb. He has won two races and finished on the podium at all three rounds to date.

Meanwhile the familiar John Jones Steel Falcon of Graham 'Snr Burner' Beirne is in need of repair after a collision at Teretonga and will not be running at this round. However Graham is committed and a born fighter to the end and he has decided to run the category Ford Falcon to aid his quest in the 2010/2011 ENZED V8 Ute Challenge. It has been an extremely challenging season for 'Snr Burner' thus far but it is time for his luck to change. Senior will be sporting the new look ute at Timaru and will be back in the trusty John Jones Steel Falcon for Manfeild and the pending rounds.

As Simon says, "you have to love his enthusiasm and 'jump back on the horse attitude'. That has been the backbone of Grahams success with challenges that have come his way enabling him to overcome the hurdles he has!! We wish him well."

Testing for the ENZED V8 Ute Challenge competitors takes place on both Thursday and Friday before qualifying takes place at 10.50am on Saturday. The opening race of the round will commence at 2.40pm that afternoon. The following day another 8 lap race is scheduled for 10.25am with the final race, over a distance of 12 laps, at 2.00pm.

In addition to the support of major partners McDonald's and John Jones Steel in conjunction with Simon Beirne Limited, "Integrity in Vehicle Brokering," the team also has support from Bruce Raxworthy Panel & Paint, Chevron Quality Cars - Driving Excellence, Business IT Software Management Systems, Mag & Turbo Warehouse, NZVD Transport, Lets Get Graphic, DJ Hewitt Builders Ltd and Vehicle Safety Systems {VSS} And Compliance.
