KNIGHT LOOKS FOR ANOTHER GOOD HAUL AT TIMARU
Christchurch driver Andy Knight will be looking for another good points haul when he lines up for Round 4 of the BNT V8s Championship at Timaru International Motor Raceway this weekend.
Knight has been extremely competitive in the Radio Live Falcon at the opening three rounds of the 2009/2010 championship and arrives at Timaru eighth in the series point standings. His championship position could have been even higher had he not received a time penalty at the second round prior to Christmas that dropped him from 3rd overall to 6th for the round.
However the points differential between the fourth and eighth place in the championship is small and more good placings this weekend will keep Knight, a former New Zealand Grand Prix winner, well in the hunt.
Last weekend at Teretonga he qualified 6th, just .313 of a second off pole position, and secured a 5th and 6th place in the first two races of the round. Unfortunately Andy was slowed dramatically in the finale when another driver had his foot slip off his brake pedal, causing a heavy impact with the left hand side of the Radio Live Falcon. Andy still managed to steer the car home for more valuable points however.
Twenty-three year old Knight has qualified inside the top ten at each round of the series to date and has finished each race in the top ten apart from the reverse grid races at Powerbuilt Tools Raceway where he received the time penalty and at Teretonga where the car was damaged.
Testing takes place at the 2.4 kilometre circuit at Levels to the north of the South Canterbury town on Saturday before qualifying at 3.55pm that afternoon. The first race takes place over 12 laps on Sunday morning at 10.05am followed by another 12 lap contest at 1.00pm. The reverse grid race over 22 laps is timed to start at 4.20pm.
Knights campaign in the 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship is supported by Radio Live, Milwaukee Power Tools, John Jones Steel, Century Yuasa and the Latimer Hotel.
