TOP TEN FOR KNIGHT AT END OF CONSISTENT SEASON
Andy Knight delivered another top performance at the final round of the 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship at the Taupo Motorsport Park last weekend to seal seventh place in the highly competitive series for the season.
The Christchurch driver has had an impressive season in the Radio Live Falcon, showing both speed and maturity in the star studded championship.
The former single seater star, in just his second season in the category, qualified inside the top ten at every round of the series and also managed to secure a top ten result at all six rounds.
Knights debut year the previous season had seen the young Cantabrian plagued by unreliabilty but this year the former winner of the Toyota Racing Series and the New Zealand Grand Prix had a reliable car in the Radio Live Falcon and he used it well, mixing it at the front of the field in the country's premier racing category.
The Taupo finale saw Andy maintain his record of qualifying inside the top ten when he secured 7th on the grid for the opening race of the round in Saturdays top ten shootout. Sixth place in the first race was a great start to the round and he backed it up with an 8th placing in the second. However during that second race the Radio Live Falcon received a hit and while Andy managed to bring the car home in a top placing it is felt that the impact from the other car led to later problems in the third and final race. Knight battled home in 19th position with damage to the car in the finale.
"The season has been a whole lot better than last," said Andy as he reflected on a successful campaign yesterday. "It's somewhere to start to work on for next year."
It was a season that saw Andy, formerly ranked as a single seater star, emerge as one of the best in the V8 category.
While that was the conclusion of the BNT V8s Championship the season is far from over for Knight and the Radio Live Falcon as they next head to the non-championship Trophy Race at the Hamilton 400 from 16-18 April.
Knights campaign in the 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship is supported by Radio Live, Milwaukee Power Tools, John Jones Steel, Century Yuasa and the Latimer Hotel.
