MCNALLY POWERS TO 8TH PLACE IN OPENING V8 UTES RACE ON GOLD COAST

Rhys McNally has backed up his qualifying form from yesterday with an outstanding 8th place in today's opening race of the V8 Utes on the Gold Coast street circuit.

After qualifying 9th yesterday, Rhys had his sights set on a solid top ten finish today, which he accomplished is stunning fashion.

"I got a really good start today which set me up for a solid race," he said.

"The racing up front was really good and close but I had a few lucky moments."

Rhys managed to escape from a tyre bundle that was flicked up and rolled over his headlight; a few centimeters different and he could have been out of the race.

"I was happy to finish today, and more happy to finish strongly; I have the pace here and keeping out of trouble is the key."

Rhys will start tomorrow's reverse grid race from position 2.

"I am confident of a good result tomorrow with a front row start in race 2.

"If I can get off the line well then I will have a real crack at winning it, I am going to give it my best shot."

Rhys has the final two races of the round tomorrow (Sunday).
