USF2000 Sonoma Friday qualifying and practice recap

The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda finished qualifying for the double header at Sonoma Raceway with race one happening this afternoon.

Championship leader Florian Latorre led the qualifying timesheet with a lap of 1:35.072 over title contender RC Enerson’s lap of 1:35.189 and Jake Eidson’s lap of 1:35.226.

Latorre earned the bonus point for pole, extending his championship lead to 31 points ahead of this afternoon’s race.  Finishing ahead of Eidson and Enerson will guarantee the Frenchman the title and the scholarship package to advance to the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires for 2015.

Latorre has had a good day so far, leading the morning practice session with a lap of 1:34.9773.  Lucas Oil Raceway winner Aaron Telitz was second with Eidson third.  Enerson was sixth in the morning session while Colton Herta, yesterday’s third fastest car in both sessions ended up eighth.  He was also eighth in the qualifying session today.

USF2000 will race this afternoon at 3:20 Pacific time.  The race will be 40 minutes in length.
