Series rookies Abbate, Goikhberg and Sala set to challenge for wins

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (March 17, 2010) - JDC MotorSports is excited to announce that it will enter the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda via a highly talented three-car line-up that it has assembled for this year. Driving for the Minnesota-based reigning Star Mazda Championship and F2000 Championship Series champions in its latest motorsports endeavor will be series rookies Raphael Abbate, Mikhail Goikhberg and Martin Sala.

JDC MotorSports will add another page to its ever-growing racing resume in 2010, when it enters the newly revitalized USF2000 National Championship. The move will mark a reunion of sorts, as the renowned squad first began racing in the professional ranks in the 1990's via the previous edition of the USF2000 National Championship. Achieving success early on, JDC has since grown into one of the leading pro junior formula car outfits, winning two Star Mazda Championship titles (2007 and 2009), an F2000 Championship Series title (2009) and numerous races.

Seeking to build on these achievements, JDC MotorSports will have a formidable three-car line-up under its USF2000 National championship awning in 2010 via Abbate, Goikhberg and Sala.

Abbate will make his North American racing debut in 2010 with JDC MotorSports following a multiple race-winning season last year in South America. The 18 year-old Brazilian was among the drivers to watch in the highly competitive F3 SudAmericana series, finishing a close second the Light class, with four wins and 16 podium finishes in 18 races.

A native of Russia, Goikhberg enters the USF2000 National Championship with JDC with junior formula car success already on his resume. The 22 year-old spent the majority of last season behind the wheel of a FF1600 in the highly regarded Ontario Formula Ford Championship, earning two podium finishes in his rookie campaign. In addition to his full Formula Ford campaign, he contested two F2000 Championship Series races, finishing sixth in his debut. Prior to racing in the Canadian series, Goikhberg was twice victorious in Skip Barber Regional competition.

Sala joins both JDC and the USF2000 series following a strong car racing debut last season. Taking part in the Formula BMW USA series, the Colombian rookie showed continued progress each time he got behind the wheel, ending the season ninth in the championship fight via one top-five finish and 11 top-10s. The 19 year-old Sala raced karts in Europe prior to making the move to cars, focusing on the KF2 class.

"This will be an exciting year with the revival of the USF2000 Series," said JDC Motorsports owner John Church. "We have assembled a great lineup of drivers and are currently preparing a batch of new cars with the new Mazda powerplant."

JDC MotorSports and its newly signed drivers are currently busy preparing for the 12-race Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered Mazda season, which gets underway on March 27-28, with Rounds One and Two on the streets of St. Petersburg, FL, in conjunction with race two of the IndyCar Series.
