Cane stays with Pelfrey, graduates to USF2000

Young Briton joins Mazda Road To Indy and signs long-term deal with Florida-based squad

Team Pelfrey confirmed today that 14-year-old F1600 star Jordan Cane has signed with the team for at least two more seasons, and will move up to the Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda Championship in 2016.

Despite missing the first six races in the 21-round F1600 Formula F Championship Series in 2015, the Briton was able to finish fourth in the championship on the back of seven wins and three other podiums.

“I am so pleased to continue my North American open-wheel racing career with Team Pelfrey,” Cane said. “My time in America has been such a highlight to my résumé, especially breaking the all-time F1600 win record in my first season… I didn't expect to have such a fantastic year and I have to thank everyone at Team Pelfrey who has made it possible.

"Continuing my career with the only team to currently compete on every step of the Mazda Road To Indy is an easy one for me. It not only highlights a very clear path for my career moving forward but it's also a testament to the faith the team are putting in me for the longer term. For that I’m extremely grateful.”

Nigel Tuckey, team principal at Pelfrey, added: “We are delighted to have Jordan join us for another two years. His growth on and off the track has been extraordinary. We’ve grown accustomed to seeing him on the top step of the podium, and we hope to see more of that come 2016.”
