JJ Yeley To Race At Mopar Twin 25's Irwindale
LAGUNA BEACH, CA - The all-time record holder for most USAC feature wins in a season-J.J. Yeley-will be a star attraction of the Mopar Twin 25's Irwindale when he returns to USAC Midget racing and a shot at the big money.
Last year, Yeley won 24 USAC feature races, surpassing the record originally set by the legendary A.J. Foyt in 1961. Yeley also duplicated a feat achieved by Tony Stewart in winning all three National USAC Championships in the same year: Midget, Sprint Car and Silver Crown.
In 2004, Yeley's moved up to NASCAR's Joe Gibbs Racing-winners of championships in NASCAR's top series in 2002 and 2000-in a race schedule that includes ARCA, NASCAR Busch and NASCAR Nextel Cup races.
"You can count J.J. Yeley as the next USAC star to make a name for himself in the highest levels of NASCAR racing," said Steve Lewis, Premier Racing Entertainment, organizers of the Mopar Twin 25's. "Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, Kenny Irwin Jr., Jason Leffler, Kasey Kahne all came from the USAC Midget ranks...J.J. Yeley is definitely next on the list."
Lewis noted that Kahne competed in last year's Mopar Twin 25's Irwindale, and recently captured the attention of NASCAR fans across the country in his dramatic second-place finish at Rockingham.
Joining Yeley in the Mopar Twin 25's Irwindale are USAC's hottest open wheel stars, including Dave Steele, Dave Darland, Tracy Hines, Jay Drake, Bobby East, Michael Lewis, Josh Wise and more.
In the unique racing format of the Mopar Twin 25's, the winner of the first 25-lap feature starts dead last in the second 25-lap feature. ARP has posted a gigantic $50,000 bonus prize for any driver who can win both feature races, so the winning driver of the first 25-lap feature race must pass the entire field in the 25 laps of the second feature race to claim the big money prize.
The 2nd Annual Mopar Twin 25's Irwindale is presented by Mission Foods. Associate Sponsors are Racer Magazine, MSD Ignition, Calico Coatings, Gigante, Vital Express, Probe Industries, Guerrero, Corteco and Turbines Inc.
Kicking off this year's Mopar Twin 25's will be an exhibition of the latest motorsports craze to invade the U.S. from Japan-Drifting. Starting at 5 p.m., there will be two 15-minute sessions of drifting, a dramatic new form of motorsports where smoking tires are everything, organized by Slipstream Global Marketing.
Also, Champ Car stars Adrian Fernandez, Michel Jourdain Jr. and Patrick Carpentier are going to bring their world renown open wheel driving skills to the short track! As part of the evening's fun, they are going to climb into Focus Midgets in a big preliminary race to compete against the local Focus Midgets regulars.
