J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. hopes to extend his all-time USAC single-season victory record to 25 this Saturday night in Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park's "Old Pueblo Classic" doubleheader.

The USAC National/Western Midgets and Western Sprint Cars share billing on the 3/8-mile paved oval, with 40-lap features on tap for both.

Yeley will compete in the Midgets in a Steve Lewis-owned car. Lewis is USAC's all-time winningest Midget car owner, with 113 career National triumphs to his credit. Yeley has already scored six National Midget wins this season on his way to a possible National championship. His latest win came August 7 at Belleville, Kans., a victory that established the new all-time single-season mark, breaking A.J. Foyt's 1961 record of 19. Sleepy Tripp (1988) and Jay Drake (2000) also tied Foyt's mark.

Yeley is the only driver in USAC history to win National races on both dirt and paved surfaces in a single season. His first three Midget wins this year came on paved ovals at Stockton and Madera, Calif. and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

J.J. will be seeking his initial USAC victory at Tucson in Saturday's events, although his father, Jack, won three USAC Midget races in Tucson in 1987 and 1988. J.J. finished ninth in last year's "Old Pueblo Classic" 40-lapper behind race winner Tracy Hines.

Tracy Hines (Midgets) and Kasey Kahne (Sprints) captured last year's "Old Pueblo Classic" feature events.

In addition to Yeley, 14 other USAC driving champions are already entered for Saturday's events. They include USAC Triple Crown Champion Dave Darland (97 Silver Crown, 99 Sprint and 01-02 Midget), Tracy Hines (00 Silver Crown, 02 Sprint), Jason Leffler (98 Silver Crown, 97-98-99 Midget), Jay Drake (96 Western Midget, 90-91 TQ Midget), Bud Kaeding (99 Western Sprint), Rick Hendrix (02 Western Sprint, 98 Western Midget, 92 TQ Midget), Tony Hunt (01 Western Sprint, 02 Western Regional Sprint, 92 Russell Pro), Josh Wise (99 TQ Midget), Wally Pankratz (00 Western Midget), Robby Flock (86, 89, 92, 02 Western Midget), Jeff Gardner (98 Western Sprint), J.J. Ercse (93, 02 TQ Midget), Scott Hansen (95 TQ Midget) and Jim Waters (03 Rocky Mountain Sprint).
