1 of 4 Titles up for grabs in Tucson's "Old Pueblo Classic"

Four USAC titles will be up for grabs on Saturday night, November 22 when Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park hosts the "Old Pueblo Classic."

The USAC National and Western Midget Car and Western Sprint Car Championships could be decided during the "doubleheader" racing program on the 3/8-mile paved oval. In addition, J.J. Yeley hopes to nail down USAC's fourth "triple crown" title and only the second in a single season in the club's 48-year history!

Yeley, of Phoenix, Ariz., is 121 points ahead of Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. in the National Midget Car Series standings. A title for either driver would make them only the fourth to win all three major USAC National Championships (Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget). Tony Stewart, Pancho Carter and Dave Darland are the others. Yeley could match Stewart's 1995 feat of sweeping all three in a single season!

A total of 138 points are available at Tucson and November 27 at Irwindale, Calif., so an 18th-place finish or better at Tucson would lock up the title for Yeley.

Steve Paden of Downey, Calif. Leads Jerome Rodela of El Monte, Calif. And Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. by 97 and 100 points respectively going into the Tucson event. Paden needs a seventh-pace finish at Tucson to eliminate both.

Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. is 105 points ahead of Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. with 144 available in the Tucson and Irwindale programs. A ninth-place at Tucson gives Lewis his initial USAC championship.

The "Old Pueblo Classic" concludes with 40-lap features for both the Midgets and Sprint cars as USAC conducts its 56th and 57th races in the city. Arizona's own Roger McCluskey won the first, a Midget race at Tucson Motor Speedway in 1962.
