Lewis triumphs at east Wenatchee

Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. took another step toward his initial USAC racing championship Wednesday night, winning the 40-lap USAC Western Sprint Car feature event at the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval in East Wenatchee, Wash.

Lewis led all 40 laps around the 1/4-mile paved oval in USAC's first appearance in the Evergreen state in 17 years! Trailing Lewis' Team ASE/Snap-On Eagle/Wesmar at the checkered flag were Craig Deaver, Greg Taylor, Jim Waters and Shauna Hogg.

Lewis, USAC's 1998 National Midget Car Rookie of the Year, emerged from the race with a 100-point lead over Tony Hunt in the new series standings. Hunt, Wednesday night's fastest qualifier, finished sixth in the 40-lap feature.

The USAC Western Sprint Car Series will resume Sept. 13 at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah in an event offering both Western and Port-O-Call Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series points. The race will conclude the 2003 Rocky Mountain series, although additional races remain on the Western Sprint Car calendar.
