Ellison annexes Madera Sprint; Western Series Resumes Saturday At Carson City

Todd Ellison of Salt Lake City, Utah, USAC's 2000 Western Sprint Car Champion, won Saturday night's USAC Western Regional Sprint Car race at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Ellison drove the Central Body Shop/Aero-Jet Service Chevy/Beast.

The USAC Western and Western Regional Sprint Car Series continue this Saturday night with a program at Champion Speedway in Carson City, Nev. offering points toward both championships. The feature is scheduled for 40 laps on the 1/3-mile pavement. Chad Nichols leads Tim Barber by a single point in the Western standings, while defending Western Champ Tony Hunt, fourth in Western points, leads Bryan Bullard by 29 points in the Regional standings.

Ellison was trailed to the checkered flag at Madera by Hunt, Dave Steele, Shauna Hogg and Bobby McMahan. McMahan led the first six laps, then yielded to Steele, who paced the next 15 laps. Ellison then took command and led the final nine laps for the victory.
