Hendrix beats rain, grabs 25-lap Tucson sprint.

Rick Hendrix of Canoga Park, Calif. captured Saturday night's 25-lap USAC Western Sprint Car race at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park. A threat of rain forced all prelims to be scrubbed in favor of conducting the feature event.

Hendrix led all 25 laps to beat series point leader Chad Nichols, Scott Hansen, Todd Ellison and Mike Aaby, Jr. to the checkered flag. Nichols' finish left him with a 36-point lead over Ellison in the new standings.

Defending series champion Tony Hunt, who finished seventh at Tucson, ranks third in the points going into a September 21 race at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway which also afford "regional" points as well.
