Jim Waters will try to lock up his initial USAC racing championship this Saturday night when the USAC Western/Port-O-Call Rocky Mountain Sprint Cars take to the 4/10-mile paved Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The hometown hero leads fellow Salt Lake City resident Dave Fitzgerald by 51 points with 72 available Saturday. Waters has two victories and a second in the last three races at the track, while Fitzgerald won the series opener in May. Jimmy Wysong, winner of the last USAC race at the track, ranks third, 61 points behind the leader.

Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. holds a 100-point lead over Tony Hunt in the Western Sprint Car Series standings, which will also be affected by this Saturday night's race. Lewis is also seeking his initial USAC driving championship.

A 40-lap feature caps the program at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
