Western Series point race tightens.

Kasey Kahne of Enumclaw, Wash. won Saturday night's 40-lap USAC Western Sprint Car feature, part of Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway's USAC "tripleheader" which also featured the Western Midget Cars and USAC Ford Focus Midget Cars.

Kahne, driving the Zarounian Motorsports Beast, caught Bud Kaeding on the 20th lap and led the rest of the way to beat Kaeding, fast qualifier Tony Hunt, Rick Hendrix and Scott Hansen.

Series point leader Chad Nichols finished 10th at Irwindale and has a 39-point lead over Hansen going into a November 23 race at Tucson, Ariz., while four drivers are locked in a tight battle for the runner-up point spot, separated by just 37 points!

Levi Jones led the first four laps of Saturday night's race, then yielded to Kaeding for laps 5-19.

The Western Sprint Car Series will conclude with races Nov. 23 at Tucson, Nov. 28 at Irwindale and Nov. 30 at Las Vegas, Nev.
