Rick Hendrix of Simi Valley, Calif. carries an 18-point lead over defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Tony Hunt into this weekend's back-to-back races at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho.

Hendrix, one of only two drivers in USAC history to post victories in Western Sprint, Midget and TQ Midget competition, has been on the podium in all three of this year's Western Sprint Car appearances. He finished second at El Cajon, Calif. in March and Madera, Calif. in May, then took third at Tracy, Calif. a week ago.

Hunt won the Madera race, while Mike Aaby, Jr. and Tony Stewart posted victories in the other two events.

The Boise timetable calls for complete racing programs each night. A 20-lap feature caps Friday's activities at the 1/4-mile paved oval, while a 50-lapper is on tap Saturday. Practice will commence at 3 pm each day.

Tim Barber, winner of the 2000 USAC Russell Pro Triple Crown Championship, also figures to challenge for the series point lead this weekend. He trails Hendrix by 28 after a pair of fourths and a seventh in his three starts.
