WESTERN MIDGETS HEADED FOR LAS VEGAS OCTOBER 31; HANSEN EXTENDS LEAD WITH VENTURA VICTORY

Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach. Calif. extended his lead in the USAC Western Midget Series Saturday night, winning the 25-lap feature event at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. The series continues October 31 at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring.

Hansen, of Manhattan Beach, Calif., led all 25 laps to win at Ventura in his Andy Bondio Barnes entry. Hansen beat 2009 USAC/SMRS Great Plains Midget Champ Brad Loyet to the checkered flag. Jerome Rodela took third ahead of Shannon McQueen and Matt Mitchell.

Rodela trails Hansen by 97 points in the new series standings going into the Speed Fest 2009 program at LVMS. Saturday's race will be only the second USAC Midget race at the Bullring since 2004. Zach Schiff won last year's 30-lapper.

The highest ranking driver in the 2009 standings who competed in last year's Bullring feature is Scott Pierovich, who was 10th. Brad Loyet, USAC's 2009 SMRS Great Plains Midget Champ, who finished second at Ventura, was fourth last year at LVMS.
