FLOCK SEEKS 50TH CAREER USAC WESTERN VICTORY IN "FRED GERHARDT OPEN WHEEL CLASSIC" AT STOCKTON
This Saturday's "Fred Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic" at the Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway presents one of the biggest challenges USAC's Western Midget Car Series participants will face this year 100 laps around the 1/4-mile paved oval with 33 cars starting the feature event three-abreast!
Saturday night's events also include the USAC California Ford Focus Pavement Midgets, who will compete in a 20-lap feature.
Headlining the Midget field will be four-time USAC Western Midget Car Champion Robby Flock of Murietta, Calif. and seven-time BCRA Midget Car Champion Floyd Alvis of San Carlos, Calif. Flock is seeking his 50th career USAC Western Midget Car feature victory.
Former USAC Western Midget Car Champion Steve Paden, defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champion Tony Hunt and former Western Sprint Car Champ Michael Lewis also bear watching in Saturday's 100-lapper. Lewis won a pair of 100-lap USAC Western Midget races last year at Madera (Calif.) Speedway.
Other pre-entered drivers at Stockton include 2004 Western Midget Car Rookie of the Year Matt Mitchell and Most Improved Driver Garrett Hansen, 2004 Belleville Midget Nationals Focus Champ and 2004 California Focus North Champ Bradley Galedrige, plus Shannon McQueen, Dallen McKenney and Midwestern star Billy Wease.
