Scott Pierovich of Alamo, Calif. leads the new USAC Western Midget Car Series standings after finishing sixth in Saturday night's 100-lap "Fred Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic" main event at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Pierovich, who finished seventh at Madera, leads Chris Rahe by 28 points going into a May 12 race at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif.

Billy Wease of Noblesville, Ind. led all 100 laps to win at Madera in the Western Speed entry. Wease's last Western Midget appearance ended with a victory in the prestigious 2006 "Turkey Night Grand Prix" at Irwindale, Calif. last November.

Trailing Wease, who was also the fastest Madera qualifier, were Paul Zimmerly, Kody Swanson, Johnny Rodriguez and Evan Margeson.

Defending USAC Western Midget Champion Jerome Rodela was 10th Saturday and now ranks third in the standings attempting to win the title for a third consecutive year.
