Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. outraced 2002 "Turkey Night Grand Prix" Midget Champion Michael Lewis to win Saturday night's USAC Western Midget Car race at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.

Steele, who posted the fastest qualifying time and finished third at Irwindale last November, qualified second behind Lewis Saturday but passed Lewis on lap 14 of the 30-lap feature. Lewis regained the lead on lap 17 but Steele moved back in front for good on lap 22 in his Mopar/Finish Line Towing Beast.

Trailing runner-up Lewis at the checkered flag were Jerome Rodela, Johnny Rodriguez and series point leader Steve Paden.

Paden, of Downey, Calif., leads Rodela by 52 points and Josh Wise by 62 going into this Saturday night's race at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. A 30-lap feature is on tap at the 3/8-mile dirt Hanford oval.

Wally Pankratz led the first six laps of Saturday's Irwindale race before Lewis and Steele took over. Pankratz and Paden finished second and third behind race winner Robby Flock at Hanford in May.
