Defending USAC National Midget Car Champion Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. is back atop the series point standings following his victory in Saturday night's 40-lap "Belleville Midget Nationals" feature at the Belleville (Kans.) High Banks.

Darland wheeled the Steve Lewis Ford/ASE/Performance Racing Industry Pink Ford/Beast to his second Belleville triumph, leading the final 27 laps after passing Jay Drake on lap 14. He was followed at the checkered flag by Bobby East, Steve Paden, Scott Hatton and Davey Ray. The win left him holding a 99-point lead over Yeley, who was unable to compete Saturday following a Friday night accident. Yeley suffered a concussion when he flipped on the 20th lap of the Friday feature and was sidelined the rest of the weekend.

Preliminary night feature events were won by Ryan Scott of Concord, N.C. (Friday) and Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. (Saturday). Friday night's "Eddie Jackson Classic" was concluded after 15 laps due to track conditions, with Scott, in the HSR/Autoworld Gaerte Ford/Beast, leading A.J. Fike, Dave Strickland, Jr., Brian Gerster and Keith Rauch. Fike led the first 11 laps before yielding to Scott. East led all 25 laps of Saturday night's "Stan Fox Classic" in his Team ASE Pink Chevy/Beast to beat Steve Paden, Darland, Jay Drake and Matt Westfall.

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind., who escaped injury in a Friday flip at Belleville, won Tuesday night's 40-lapper at Eagle Raceway in Lincoln, Neb. in the Calypso Lemonade/Pak Technologies Mopar Sesco/Stealth. He was trailed by Darland, who led the first 29 laps, Jason Leffler, Josh Wise and Paden.

USAC Western Midget Car point leader Shane Scully of Encino, Calif. suffered a concussion and broken finger in a flip during Friday's third heat race at Belleville. He was transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kans. for treatment.

Darland is the defending winner of the "Joe James/Pat O'Connor Classic" Midget Car feature, which is part of this Saturday night's USAC "doubleheader" at the Salem (Ind.) Speedway. The Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars share the Salem billing, with a 50-lap Sprint feature following the 30-lap Midget Car feature. Practice starts at 4 pm, with qualifying at 5:30 and racing at 7 on the 1/2-mile paved oval. Drivers will be aiming at Dave Steele's 1-lap Midget track record of 116.099 mph, set last year.

The USAC Western Midget Car and Ford Focus Midget Car Series continue this Saturday night at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. A 20-lap Ford Focus feature is on tap prior to the 30-lap main event for the Western Midget Car Series. Scully holds an 84-point lead over Danny Stratton in the Western points, while Todd Hunsaker's Ford Focus lead over Phil Goodwine stands at 52.
