J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. has his eyes squarely focused on the $50,000 cash bonus posted for this Saturday night's Mopar "Twin 25s Irwindale" presented by Mission Foods at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway after posting a wire-to-wire victory in last Friday night's 100-lap "Fred Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic" at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway.

Yeley, who needs a USAC National Midget title to claim the USAC "Triple Crown" after winning National Sprint Car and Silver Crown titles respectively in 2001 and 2002, leads the National and Western Midget Car standings after his Madera victory in the Steve Lewis ASE/Ford Beast/Pink Ford. He outqualified a field of 38 cars to take the pole for the USAC/BCRA event, then led every lap of the race which featured a 36-car, 3-abreast start!

J.J. was trailed at the checkered flag by Teddy Beach, Bobby East, A.J. Fike and Tracy Hines. NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Tony Stewart competed and finished 13th. Travis Johnson and Ryan Durst captured "last chance" races which preceded the 100-lap feature.

The $50,000 Irwindale bonus will be paid to any driver who can sweep both 25-lap feature events. The first race winner must start last in the second race to be eligible for the bonus. Last September Dave Steele swept both 25-lap races at Indianapolis Raceway Park to claim the $50,000 bonus prize!

Defending USAC California Ford Focus Midget Car Champion Todd Hunsaker of Chino Hills, Calif. won Friday night's 30-lap Ford Focus Midget Car feature at Madera Speedway. He took the lead from Ryan Kaplan on the 17th lap and led the rest of the way to beat fast qualifier Ray Neveau, Kaplan, Tyler Brown and Michael Lewis.

Hunsaker leads the California Ford Focus Midget standings going into the April 26 Irwindale events.

Practice at Irwindale gets under way at 3 pm and qualifying starts at 5 pm. A driver autograph session follows at 6 pm and the 25-lap Ford Focus Midget Car feature starts at 7:15.
