FAAS LEADS MIDGETS TO BAKERSFIELD SATURDAY; RODRIGUEZ "BACK-TO-BACK" WINNER AT "LOUIE VERMEIL CLASSIC"

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif. posted a pair of "top-10" finishes in Saturday and Sunday races at Calistoga, Calif. and emerged with a healthy 138-point lead over Scott Pierovich in the latest USAC Western Midget Series standings. The series heads to Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway this Saturday, a track where Faas already has logged a sixth and a third this season.

Johnny Rodriguez of Elk Grove, Calif. led the final five laps to win Saturday night's 20-lap "Louie Vermeil Classic" USAC Western Midget race at Calistoga Speedway. Rodriguez passed Pierovich on lap 16 and led the rest of the way in his Mancha Realtors/JM Realty Spike/Esslinger Ford to beat Pierovich, Shane Golobic, John Sarale and Randi Pankratz

On Sunday night Rodriguez trailed Pierovich for 10 laps, then led the final 15 to win the 25-lapper over Garrett Hansen, Pierovich, Faas and Randi Pankratz. Shane Golobic led the opening lap, Hansen led the next two and Pierovich paced the next seven before Rodriguez took over.
