Josh Wise of Riverside, Calif. threw his hat in the ring for the 2003 USAC Western Midget Car title Saturday night, winning the feature event at the Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway. He trails leader Steve Paden by only 42 points going into this Saturday night's "Harvest Classic 150" at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. A 50-lap Midget, 50-lap USAC Western Sprint Car and 50-lap USAC Western Midget Car feature cap the night's racing program on the 1/3-mile paved oval.

Wise's second Bakersfield victory of the year came in a shortened 30-lapper which was checkered flagged after 27 laps due to an accident and impending curfew. Four drivers flipped during the 27 laps but there were no driver injuries.

Trailing Wise's Dino Tomassi Mopar Parts/Finish Line Towing Beast/Mopar were former series champ Danny Ebberts, Bobby Boone, Tyler Brown and defending series champ Robby Flock. Paden finished 12th.
